The spooky version of enhancing community engagement.
The New Albany Parks and Recreation Department is a distinct parks district separate from the city with a mission to serve the community through youth sports, educational programs, and arts events. They faced challenges with their outdated website, which was not only cumbersome for updates but also lacked user-friendly navigation. Their main goal was to enhance usability and accessibility. The existing website featured a complex site map with extensive content, making it difficult for users to navigate. Moreover, it struggled with delivering the visual impact and functionality needed to drive program sign-ups and engage the community effectively. As a New Albany-based company, we were thrilled to help them create a more user-friendly website that encourages community involvement.
The redesign process began with a Stakeholder interview to get a sense of priorities. The project involved a complete overhaul of the site map to create a more intuitive and user-friendly layout. A key challenge during the project was deciding whether to organize content by season or age group. The decision was made to categorize activities by age group and give users the ability to filter by program type, which ultimately improved user navigation.
Because there were so many pages that required frequent seasonal changes, NA Parks staff decided to build the Sports and Programs pages on their site while we built most other pages. Buckeye Innovation created the user-friendly templates in Elementor and provided training to their team. This allowed them to have control over their ever-changing program schedules. We had routine meetings with them to check in with their comfort level and share our own progress. This approach saves both time and money! It also gives clients who need to frequently update their sites an introduction to WordPress and Elementor while working alongside our experts.
The redesigned website transforms the user experience. The navigation is simple, allowing users to access sign-ups and program details through multiple pathways to ensure no one misses information. Users can sort programs by age and type. This restructuring not only made information easier to find but also increased accessibility and created the foundation for the Parks department to expand in the future. The top results of the project included a smoother user experience, improved accessibility, and increased engagement. The new site encourages residents to explore various programs and events, setting a new standard for community interaction and participation for the New Albany Parks and Recreation Department.
