The City of New Albany is a vibrant suburb of Columbus, Ohio. It is home to 12,000 residents and serves as a major business hub with 25,000 professionals working in its thriving business park. The city’s website, however, was struggling to keep up with its growing community. While the city had thousands of beautiful photos from community events, the website layout offered few opportunities to showcase them. Additionally, some pages, especially those for police and governmental boards, were extremely heavy on content, which made finding information difficult. The challenge was to create a more intuitive, accessible, and visually appealing website that met the needs of all users.
To address the City of New Albany’s needs, we embarked on a comprehensive website redesign project. Our process began with a thorough audit of the existing site to identify key pain points and areas for improvement. We then developed a strategy focused on both enhancing functionality and improving aesthetics.
Our team designed new page templates with images in mind. These templates ensured consistent formatting and streamlined the process of building and migrating content. Our developers and designers worked collaboratively to create a logical and visually appealing site, using New Albany’s extensive photo library as a foundation. We divided some of the more content-heavy pages into multiple pages; for example, we gave each of the police programs their own pages and showcased them in cards on the main Police page, which makes it easier for users to find the resources they want. We also incorporated a newsletter sign-up form in the site’s footer to encourage more signups.
The redesigned website for the City of New Albany has had a transformative impact. The new site is modern, user-friendly, and visually appealing. This change makes it easier for residents and visitors to navigate and find information quickly. The enhanced search functionality and readily accessible information have significantly improved the user experience, reducing frustration and increasing efficiency.
The revamped homepage drives more newsletter subscriptions and fosters greater community engagement. Additionally, the introduction of a cleaner, more organized site will lead to a decrease in emails and phone calls seeking support, because citizens are empowered to easily find information on their own. Overall, the new website reflects the city’s growth and dynamic nature, providing a more effective and engaging online presence.
