At Buckeye Interactive, we love our employees! As such, we’re continuing our Employee Spotlights. We want you to get to know our team whether you’re a client, a potential coworker, or a friend. September’s Employee Spotlight is dedicated to one of our Project Managers–Lorraine Shill! Let’s learn more about her–read on.
Tell us about yourself! Where are you from?
I grew up in upstate New York, four hours north of NYC, surrounded by lakes and mountains. It’s a vacation area with many hotels and resorts and everything that goes along with hospitality. My husband and I met while working at a beautiful resort on Lake George called The Sagamore. I often tell people that I lived in one area all my life until I married my husband. We’ve been moving ever since. We’ve lived in New York, New Hampshire, Missouri, California, and Ohio.
When did you start working with BI, and what do you do at our company?
I started working at BI at the very end of 2013, so this is my eighth year with the company. I started in a part time, clerical position but soon realized, to my pleasure, that when working at a small company you take on all kinds of jobs, helping out where you can. I loved this aspect of my job, and it enabled me to grow and learn. With the encouragement of leadership, I took on additional responsibilities, and my skill set grew. I am now a Project Manager and love the work I do.
What motivates you to get up and go to work?
I feel challenged every day. Every day is different, and I never get bored. I always feel like I’m learning and growing. I’ve had many jobs where I definitely don’t feel this way, so I am very thankful for this opportunity. I don’t take it for granted.
How has your career grown since starting with BI?
As I mentioned above, it has grown tremendously. If you had told me eight years ago that this is what I would be doing, I wouldn’t have believed you. I would have thought I would need to go back to school or take classes. I’m thankful to have been able to learn while on the job and thankful to be given the opportunity.
How do our core values (collaboration, initiative, ingenuity) influence your day-to-day?
I feel that these core values are a part of my day-to-day, every day. I see these happening in all of my interactions with both team members and clients. These core values are an integral part of our organization, who we are as a team, and how we interact with our clients.
What’s your favorite part about working with BI?
Number one is definitely the people! I truly like and enjoy working with everyone on our team. Everyone works really hard, but we have fun as well.
Number two is the work. I love being a Project Manager. I love learning about all the different projects we are working on and watching our team create amazing final products for our clients. My role requires a high level of organization, which feeds into the uber organized way I am with the rest of my life, which drives some people crazy but calms my nerves.
What’s the one thing most people don’t know about you?
That I’ve moved many times and have lived in five different states. This has been a wonderful experience and so eye-opening to me. At times it’s lonely and scary, always being “the new person,” but it’s exciting as well. I’ve met so many wonderful people and have friends across the country, literally. Sounds cliché to say “it’s character building,” but for me it has been. I was quite a homebody and somewhat introverted when growing up, but I’ve been forced to “come out of my shell,” as they say, and it’s been very good for me.
What do you do outside of working hours? (AKA, fav hobbies!)
I enjoy playing tennis. I play cardio tennis every weekend, and I love it. I enjoy spending time with my husband. Our daughters live in three different states so I try to schedule time to see them as often as I can.
We are always up for connecting with individuals to talk about working at Buckeye Interactive. If you think you’d be a good fit, please take a look at our careers page and reach out!
